Welcome to Quad-Blogging. I have put together a schedule and the directions for each week. You can see that schedule below.

Directions:
Each week, one class will post a blog. This blog can be any topic of choice. You might want to have the kids do a free blog. You might want to have the children blog about favorite books or movies. Maybe they will blog about their [[#|school]]. Try to see this as a time for them to learn about each other.

The week after the blog is posted, the other [[#|classes]] in the group will comment to the blogs. These comments should be specific. My comment rules are 1. Give a compliment. Be specific. 2. Make a connection to the blog. 3. Say, “Come visit my blog.” Leave your blog URL. Mrs. Yollis' video on youtube is at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDVSw54VU1A for a good review.

Once all blogs are posted, have your students go back to the blogs they read and find one that they connect with. Have them write a blog about that topic, giving credit within their blog to the original writer. Then they should go back to that original blog and leave a comment saying, “I loved your topic. I wrote about it here.” And leave the URL.

For example, Sally writes a blog about the disappointment she feels when her favorite book is turned into a really bad movie. John reads Sally’s blog and writes his own blog talking about why he thought the movie was actually pretty good. He comments back to Sally that he has written his own blog. Now Sally can comment back to him. A connection has been made.

Notes:
  • When it is your week to blog, be sure to have all blogs up by of your week. And make sure your blog is public and ready for comments. Comments should be set to moderate.
  • When you are commenting to a class, assign a student to each blog. This ensures that every child will get comments. If your class is larger than the blogging class, assign more than one child to a blog. If your class is smaller than the blogging class, assign more than one blog to each child.
  • Keeping the schedule is very important for this to work. Should you have a problem with your scheduled week, let your group know early enough to switch weeks.
  • I have scheduled for 5 classes since some groups have 5 classes. If your group only has 4 classes, you have an extra week for catch up.
